Cryo-EM facility manager for the structural biology laboratory “AFMB”, Marseille, France

Cryo-EM facility manager
Marseille, France

The laboratory “Architecture et Fonction des Macromolécules Biologiques” in Marseille is seeking for a structural biologist to manage the electron microscopy instrumentation and contribute to structural biology research projects in collaboration with local and external researchers. Primary facility management responsibilities will include maintaining/upgrading the equipment and coordinating repairs, along with scheduling, advising users on experimental strategies and overseeing data collection, processing and storage. In addition, training activities will consist in assisting Master and PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, and other scientists with sample preparation, experimentation design, and data processing and analysis. This position is associated with a high degree of independence, with opportunities to present at regional and national scientific symposia and user workshops, to and strengthen relationships with other related facilities in France and abroad.
Applicants are invited to demonstrate their knowledge in structural biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field along with their experience in the use, maintenance and implementation of single particle cryo-electron microscopy equipment, including sample preparation and screening, data collection and processing.
The AFMB structural biology facility (www.afmb.univ-mrs.fr/structural-biology-facility), which is part of the national infrastructure FRISBI, is currently equipped with a FEI Tecnai 120 kV, a cryo device and a direct camera Gatan K2 Summit. In frame of a national roadmap aimed at strengthening cutting-edge cryo-EM instrumentation, the facility is expected to house a high-end 200 kV electron microscope, and offer state-of-the-art electron cryo-microscopy for high-resolution single particle/cell imaging to users at local and regional level.
Applicants are encouraged to send a motivation letter, a full CV and the contact details of three references to dir@afmb.univ-mrs.fr. Appointment will be full-time starting with a one-year contract and possible extension, likely leading to an application for a permanent position.
The application deadline is March 15, 2020 for a possible start from April 1, 2020.
